BASICS

The Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) is a program that helps students explore their relationship with alcohol and explore changes that might enhance health and wellness. Prior to the first meeting, students will complete an online self-assessment which will generate a personalized feedback report. During the first session, the student and a counselor will discuss the personalized feedback and explore whether the information is consistent with their health and wellness goals. Collaboratively, the student and counselor will pick a “behavior experiment” for the students to try in between sessions. During the last meeting, the counselor and student will explore their behavior experiment and discuss a plan for future healthy choices and behavior.

In order to request a BASICS session, students should utilize the Online Wellness Link and complete a Request for Services. Students should scroll to the “Alcohol and Other Drug-Related Counseling Services” and click the “Request BASICS, Cannabis 101, Support Consult” option. Complete the Request for Service and we will follow up to schedule the first meeting.
BASICS is available for TCNJ Students only

If you have any further questions or scheduling issues you can contact Chris Freeman at 609-771-2572 or freemanc@tcnj.edu.
